March Update - Ho ho ho, Green Giant!

Don't sweat it if you don't get the title, just means you didn't watch enough American commercials in the 90's.

My Game:
There's 3 stages of poison severity in my game.  You'd have to try really hard to get past the first stage in the current release, but most of the basic mechanics for all three are there.  There's a section in Act 3 where the 2nd & 3rd poison levels are much more likely to occur.  I wanted a more visual cue to help distinguish between the three.  So I've been playing with adding a green tint to the hero's skin.  As you might imagine, this had some comical results until I got it right:

Supposed to be poisoned, instead she came out kinda hot.  Well, if you're into green chics anyway.  haha.  Anyway, after an afternoon of mucking around, I realized two very important things.  Crankin the green up gives ya bright green skin (like above).  If you want a darker/sickly green color, you really want a green in the middle of the spectrum.

The other thing is that you don't so much want to amp the green.  What you want is to mute the other colors.  Muting blue seems to be more important than muting red BTW, although I'm not quite clear why.  I'm still using my preschool knowledge, which says blue + yellow should get me green, but here I already have green.... bah, whatever.  Anyway, tone down red a little & tone down blue a lot & you get some really nice dark greens.  Probably obvious to anyone who's looked at a RGB color palate, but the obvious isn't always so obvious when you're working.  heh.

When I left off last month I said I'd be working on drawing backgrounds.  All true, and making progress there too.  Backgrounds aren't terribly exciting imo, but here's a sample of one of them:

I've got most of the trees & grass built, so from this point making the backgrounds should just be a matter of plopping down vegetation until I'm happy.  The water's not so great though.  Probably needs more than just a single solid color.  Simple gradients aren't cutting it though, and I don't want to add much more detail.  I want to keep the backgrounds simple - especially for something that you can barely see.  So I dunno, something for me to play with some more.

Around the Interwebs:
Okay, there really wan't much to catch my attention last month, so going to talk about something slightly different.  One of my fantasies is quitting my day job to do this full time.  Don't get too excited about that, it really is just a fantasy to me.  I actually kinda like my day job.  Anyway, a more realistic dream might be to get good enough at making games to make it a second source of income.  Might even motivate me to work on my games on a regular basis.  ha!

I'm not much on setting up stores, begging for sales, and I downright detest DRM.  So the idea of selling finished games has always been a no-go for me.  But recently there's been this new push from sites like Kickstarter.  If for some reason you haven't heard of Kickstarter, the idea is you pitch your games when they're still ideas or demos.  If folks like it, they donate a few bucks.  Mutiply this by every bored person on the web, and you have the potential for a fully funded game.  I think it's a fascinating idea, although not without it's own set of flaws mind you.

In my case, the biggest flaw is that Kickstarter prohibits adult content.  Naturally, there's another site out there to specifically fill that gap.  That one's named Offbeatr, and seems to offer what any aspiring adult game maker would need.  So I started browsing though the details.  I have to say it looks really sketchy from the artist side.  Because it's adult content, many companies won't touch them.  So they're having to do a lot of work-arounds to make payments happen.  And they're passing that charge on to the artist.  They get a 25% cut (vs. 5% for Kickstarter), and all the payments get processed through some 3rd party Paypal knockoff I'd never heard of.  I supsect it's all above board, but man, it sure raises a bunch of warning flags.

Anyway, not looking to make that plunge anytime soon.  Don't worry, I'm not going to suddenly put LotTO up on a donation site & beg for funding.  I might cite it as an example of what I can do however, which means I need to get back to work.  hah!

    1. No idea. Far enough out that I haven't even started guessing at the date.

  2. Man you put a lot of work into that background!
I just know that drawing plants is a pain in the ass, too many details, specially on the leaves, but your BG came out really nice.
About the poison effect, I really will have to re-play the game, because I forgot if it caused damage or if it hampered grappling.
But are poison stages 2 & 3 going to worsen the symptoms of poison stage 1 are they going to have unique symptoms of their own?

    I'm loving your work!

  5. I wonder if Indigogo is restricted too. They're the bigest alt website outside of Kickstarter.

  6. From what I see Indigogo has the same no porn policy as Kickstarter. They also seem to have a very similar fee structure. I wonder if they both use Amazon payments as their backbone?

  8. Green is a primary color when you are dealing with light (The three for light and computer work almost always being red, blue and green), while it is a secondary color (usually) when using pigments (paints and such). While other colors could be used as the three primaries and have been in the past the fullest color range comesw from the current stamdard (red, blue, green).

All of this comes from the fact that there are only threecolor sensing cones in the human ey. If we had had four, we'd be able to see into the ultraviolet range.

Hopefully this explains the whole color confusion somewhat. Keep up the good work!

  9. Hey, I wonder if you'd be amenable to adding a couple of cheat codes? Euphemised a bit, since I never like talking non-euphemistically about this sort of stuff, but the meaning of everything should be pretty clear anyway.

"BeGentle" -- forces all health drain during encounters to be treated as if on the middle-left portion of the dom/sub meter -- even if you would actually be on the far left of the meter, for balance. This means, in general, that you are more likely to "win" these encounters. You will still receive full damage from melee.

"ItsMyFirstTime" -- eliminates all health drain from encounters. You will still receive full damage from melee. "Invincibility" lite.

"KeepGoingDontStop" -- even after you "lose" an encounter and will have to use a Continue, the enemy will proceed at the current dom/sub "setting" until their health meter runs out, with obvious results. Then you will collapse and perform the normal "can't get back up" animation.

    1. Hmm... I like the ideas just fine, adding them this late in the game would be tough though. I realized like halfway through making it why I should use functions instead of copy/pasting code onto each frame. It's the difference between making changes trivial or a nightmare. I can still make changes by using Adobe's find & replace tool, but it seems to miss a lot of stuff. If y'all noticed the bug where armors w/o an armor save were still causing armor saves... that's why.

  10. Hey dirtyc I just wanted to say It is possible for blog writing to become your primary source of income
A lot of people have done it and are currently doing it
Some people make most there money off youtube some off blog writing
I know a few people who are blog writers and its pretty much there day job
You might want to do some googling about the topic to help your blog grow
Google adsense, Your own products, Ebooks, Tutorials, Donations which you already got going are all ways to make money off what you love
    For example
You can teach people online how to use flash professional for a small subscription monthly payment or something like bucks or whatever a month
and then ads if you place them in the right place can be an extra source of income, something that keeps bringing you in money as soon as its clicked

    1. I hadn't considered trying to make money off the blog itself. Truth is, I don't really enjoy writing that much. I also don't consider myself to be terribly good at it. I do love porn games though, so figured I'd stick with what I know. hah!

The real deal killer to making money off this blog is Blogspot itself. Their rules state that I can either have adds & earn revenue, or I can have porn. I'm not allowed to do both. I rather dislike adverts in the first place, so I'm fine with this deal. It also allows me to write more about what I feel like, rather than what I think might generate hits.

Really just do what you love and be happy
Thats the moral of the story
Btw the guy who created the game fairy fighting
He does the same thing as you
He earns money off his blog i think its his primary income and its a porn game incase you havent played it (a good game to!)
      His blog is eluku.blogspot
Is japanese though so you need a translater
The game gets like major updates every month but makes sense since he makes his income from it :p
Just thought it be something youd wanna check out thats all

  11. Tip from my Illustrator class

For water, if you make it a lighter shade of blue then have a darker layer above it with only a few lines you can create a simple water look with some waves or ripples (depending on how 'broad' you made the lines)

I haven't used Flash since...2008ish but I think it still has something like layers in it.

  12. While I am sure you already have a huge amount of ideas for positions with the new enemies you are building, there are a few i would personalty like to see. Male with female sixty nine laying down. Double penetration in more positions, especial standing. Any pose where the player is being spanked, strangled, or choked with a cock. Bondage of most varieties would be nice to see, and more females using toys on her player as well. I am sure whatever you choose will be awesome to see, these are just some I know I would enjoy.

    1. Keep those thoughts handy mate. I should start posting new monsters shortly, at which point it's open season on pose requests. Probably will not be next month, but could be the month after.

  13. a few suggestion for the gallery mode once you have completed the game

    (1) can you make it so it doesnt dump the clothes on the floor but instead have a option to eneble the damage to the clothes

    (2) for the clothing can you make it so its in sections ie 1 slot for legwear 1 slot for shoes or boots 1 slot for bottoms like trousers skirts 1 slot for tops

    (3) how about a summon option once you have freed a npc like the other characters have a summon option so you can have a orgy like in toonpimps fifis fury game you summon a character if she gets caught she gets fucked until you hit the enemy to release her with this you can make a orgy if theres more than 2 enemys

this isnt a suggestion more like a bug once completed i went to the pirates opened there door then locked it once i locked it they vanished i opened it they still wasnt there

  15. DirtyC just a few tips to make this whole thing more enjoyable for you
Instead of saying I would like this or that in your game my advice to you is to do little by little everyday
I swear you will accomplish so much more
Just commit maybe 10 minutes a day and make it easy and enjoyable, Maybe dim the lights and get some snacks out to lol
and Personally what I do for my blog is I just write a post/update a little bit everyday and will save the post to finish the next day or day after
You will find it much more enjoyable and easier then writing a big ass post once a month
Just a tip! You do things how you wanna do em!
